eric-making-winePier 10 was started by Eric Baker and his partner Sue McKenzie in 1995.


What was originally a weekender became the Pier 10 Vineyard in 1996 with plantings of 4 acres of Pinot Noir, 1 ½ acres of Pinot Gris and 2 ½ acres of Chardonnay. The weekender soon became full time weekend work with training the vines, leaf plucking and all the work required to maintain a new young vineyard.


Both Eric & Sue had full time positions in the city, Eric being a very sucessful businessman with his own art and picture framing business of 30 years and Sue in the corporate world of Police Headquarters.


The vision was to create a beautiful lifestyle on the gorgeous Mornington Peninsula while also imagining a very relaxing retirement.


Pier 10 is a small family owned and run vineyard, restaurant and cellar door.


Eric's son Stuart who has worked in fine dining in the city now leases the restaurant, Sue now runs her cellar door next door to the restaurant. Eric's younger son Scott is a builder and has been very handy in the ongoing building works. Sue's sons Paul & Jordan have also been regular faces on the restaurant floor and cellar door in the early years. All boys have pitched in during vintages.


Now it is a very busy, fully licensed restaurant with a strong following of locals who enjoy a sumptuous menu, a very extensive range of cool climate wines and the entertainment of a large stable of local musicians.


A recent addition in the cellar door is the little casual eating area where you can enjoy some lovely platters matched to estate grown and made wines after your wine tasting. A cosy fire awaits in winter and a huge out door deck in the warmer months. Views over the vineyard are superb from both areas.


The quiet weekender is now keeping everyone busy with its own winery on site, restauarant and cellar door always buzzing with activity.


The annual production is approximately 2000 cases of wine per year which is mostly sold through the cellar door, restaurant and online sales.


Andrew Thomson is the winemaker and has been working with Eric and Sue for the past 10 years, and all share the same passion of producing the best wines possible from the beautifully maintained cool climate vineyard. Evidence is in the cellar door where all wines have been enthusiastically consumed by all.
